You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between
~ “Accent-Tchu-Ate the Positive (Mister In-Between)”, Bing Crosby
You are under assault. All your life you’ve been bombarded with popular but destructive little sayings that contribute to your self-image and worldview. You hear them, internalize them, and repeat them to others, perpetuating a vicious circle of negativity and self-defeatism.
These sayings have only the power you give them. They are old lies; fight them with new truths. Every time you hear one of these nasty little nuggets, counter with its opposite. You’ll feel better, grow stronger, and make the world a little brighter.
Spread the good words!
LIE: If something can go wrong, it will.
TRUTH: Everything goes as well as it possibly can.
LIE: Life’s a bitch and then you die.
TRUTH: Life’s a dream and then you awake.
LIE: The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
TRUTH: The poor get to party and the rich get to pick up the tab.
LIE: Shit happens.
TRUTH: Shit doesn just happen, some asshole makes it.
LIE: Getting old sucks.
TRUTH: Growing older rocks!
LIE: He who dies with the most toys wins.
TRUTH: He who dies with the most toys is, nevertheless, still dead.
LIE: You can’t fight city hall.
TRUTH: There are more of us than there are of them.
LIE: You are either with us or against us.
TRUTH: We are all in this together.
LIE: You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
TRUTH: Everyone gets what they want.
LIE: Stop lights
TRUTH: Traffic signals
LIE: Ground Zero
TRUTH: Square One
What else? Any ideas?
